Dog-Friendly Parks and Trails
Dogs on Trails.....there is dog etiquette that must be followed when you are out hiking with your dog. BE PREPARED. Always, always bring waste bags and pick up after your dog. Bring a water bottle and travel bowl for your dog. A clean waste bag makes a great portable water bowl!
Keep your dog on a leash as required by law, or close by and under voice control when not.THINK. Not every dog on the trail will want to greet you and your dog. Keep your dog next to you whenever you are near other people or dogs, and always ask before letting your dog approach them. Following these basic rules allows everyone to enjoy the trails with their pets.
Cedar River Trail - This 17.3 mile trail begins at the Lake Washington mouth of the Cedar River, and ends at the Cedar River Watershed in Landsburg, near Maple Valley. The first 12 miles are paved, and the last 5 soft surface tread (crushed gravel). Depending on where you catch the trail, it can be busy or very quiet. Dogs are welcome but please pick up all pet waste. This trail has rural areas and wildlife is present. This trail has river access at several points, but be aware that during winter months the river is high and some portions of the low trail are not accessible or safe.
Lake Wilderness Trail - Lake Wilderness, Maple Valley, WA
This trail is a great, easy hiking trail that runs 4.25 miles from the Cedar River Trail to the Burlington Northern RR Tracks. An Easy trail that has multiple access points along the way. The trail runs along Lake Wilderness Park, the lake itself, and backs to a few nice neighborhoods along the way. Wide trail with crushed gravel. Dogs and horses allowed.
Mt. Rainier National Park - Mt. Rainier, WA
While pets are not permitted on most park trails, the paved walking trails near the visitor centers do allow dogs. There are a few short hikes that are easy access and allow your pet to stretch their legs and get a little exercise if you're driving through the park.
